6th Annual Interfaith Iftar Dinner
The 6th Annual Interfaith Iftar Dinner was organized by Youth Development Foundation (YDF), where youth and dignitaries from diverse religious backgrounds participated in a Ramadan Iftar to celebrate the Muslim month of Ramadan. The notable dignitaries among the attendants were Senator Kamran Michael (the Federal Minister for Human Rights), Mr. Mehar Ishtiaq (Member of National Assembly), and Mr. Shahzad Munshi (Member of Provincial Assembly Punjab). Also among the attendants were the Board of Directors of Youth Development Foundation including Fr. Herman Roborgh S.J. (Professor of Comparative Religions at Minhaj University), Mr. Zeeshan Suhail, and Mr. Azeem Shoukat. The Interfaith Iftar Dinner, which was held at Hotel Sunfort Lahore on June 12, 2016, brought together 60 youth from diverse religious backgrounds, and more than 6 dignitaries from various backgrounds. The purpose of the activity was to promote interfaith harmony among different faith communities. The Non-Muslim attendees cordially joined the Annual Interfaith Iftar to express solidarity, and celebrate the month of Ramadan, with the Muslim Community. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shahid Rehmat, the Executive Director YDF said that “Since last six years YDF has been organizing this Annual Interfaith Iftar on every Ramadan. The response shown by the Muslim Community and the people from different faith backgrounds including Christians, Hindus, etc. has always been very encouraging.” He further said that “YDF is committed towards the promotion of interfaith relations and dialogues. The interfaith conflicts can only be overcome when the member of different faith based communities come together to develop relationships based upon the values of inclusivity and respect for diversity”.
